Roger Boylan Firstbrook, age 95, peacefully entered the presence of Christ on January 16. He was a lifelong resident of the Borough of North Plainfield. Mr. Firstbrook graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1940. He served in the US Army in World War 2, European Theater, achieving the rank of Captain. Following the war he re-enrolled at Virginia Tech, and received a Bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1948. Mr. Firstbrook was a licensed Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor. After graduation he held several engineering jobs, including with the Town of Westfield, before joining the family business, C. H. Firstbrook Sons, in the mid 1950’s. He retired in 1996. Following retirement, Mr. Firstbrook traveled the world in search of birds with his close friends Andy and Gemma Major. He visited every continent, including Antarctica, when he was then 85. Mr. Firstbrook is predeceased by his wife June Becker Firstbrook in 1997, survived by his son Fred Firstbrook, Fred’s wife Josie Firstbrook, and two grandchildren, Eric Firstbrook of Wilmington, Delaware, and Rebecca Firstbrook of Houghton, New York. A memorial gathering will take place on Sat. Jan 21 from 10:30am – 12:30pm with a prayer service at 11:30am at Scarpa-Las Rosas FH, 22 Craig Place, North Plainfield, NJ, www.scarpalasrosasfh.com
