John K. Karfo

John Kostas Karfo, died May 25, 2017 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Visitation will be Wed. May 31 from 6-9pm at Scarpa-Las Rosas FH, 22 Craig Pl, N. Plainfield. Mr. Karfo was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1924. He was a WWII Navy Seabee Veteran serving in the Philippines and Alaska 1942-46. Mr. Karfo was a graduate of Columbia University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. In 1947 he married Stella Eleanor Koutsavles and fathered two daughters, Jeanne Ann and Robin. In 1958 he moved to San Francisco and married Theresa Valentini. He worked for some years for Kevin Roche and Eero Saarinen Architectural firms. He resided in NYC and briefly in Arizona before settling in New Providence, NJ the last 45 years. He later became proprietor of his own firm Topofoam in NYC. He also enjoyed Jazz Music. Mr. Karfo is predeceased by his wife of 58 years Theresa (Valentini) this past February. Surviving are his daughters, Jeanne Ann Karfo of NYC, Robin Karfo of Los Angeles, CA, Bettina Parillo of New Providence, 3 grandchildren, Georgia Noonan, Arista and Michael Parillo. www.scarpalasrosasfh.com
