Douglas N. Sheats, 78, of Middlesex, NJ passed away on Saturday May 14th at RWJ Somerset Hospital. Born in Plainfield, NJ, Douglas was a resident of Middlesex since 1973. Douglas attended Carson Long Military Academy in New Bloomfield, PA, and was a graduate of North Plainfield H.S. class of 1962. He was a proud United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran serving from 1962 – 1966, and former member of the VFW of Middlesex. He also devoted time as a volunteer for the DARE program of Piscataway. Douglas was a passionate car enthusiast and enjoyed his trips to Raceway Park. He also loved model Lionel and LGB trains. Douglas retired from PSE&G as a mechanic for 32 years. He would often display his model trains at PSE&G Christmas parties. Douglas is predeceased by his parents Douglas D. and Dorothy Sheats. Surviving is his loving wife of 51 ½ years Arline (Lacko), son Christopher Sheats of Boiling Springs, SC, daughter Dawn Towers, brother Kevin Sheats of South Plainfield and granddaughter Brittany. Visitation will take place Sunday May 22 from 2-4 and 7 – 9 pm and Monday May 23, 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Scarpa Las Rosas Funeral Home, 22 Craig Place, North Plainfield. Burial will follow 11:30 am at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
